National Certification Associations

If you are thinking about a career in massage therapy, you will have to think about all the process that you must go through with the national certification association before you will be able to practice. There are a lot of people that think there are no certification processes that are necessary for a massage therapist. However, this couldn’t be any further from the truth. Perhaps the reason that people think this is the case is because some states have their own certification tests. For the most part, all massage therapy students will have to go through a national certification association in order to take the steps necessary to become a certified, practicing massage therapists. The first thing that you should do, even before applying to a massage therapy school, is look into the process of taking the test required to become certified with a national certification association. In order to be eligible to take the certification tests, there are a few things that will be required of you. The first thing is having graduated from a fully accredited massage therapy school. This is the only way that you will be able to become certified with a national certification association so you will want to make sure that your school of choice is accredited and recognized by the certification association in your state. This is why it is extremely important to do all of the research necessary before applying to a school. If you fail to find out if your school of choice is accredited, you may find yourself with an education that is useless in terms on becoming nationally certified as a massage therapist. The second requirement for taking the certification tests is to have had at least 500 hours of instruction from a certified massage therapy instructor. Once you have done these two things, you will be eligible for taking the two certification tests.

There also many certification associations that massage therapists can become members of. This acts as an extremely trustworthy credential and kind of works the same way a union would work. All of these different associations will also require certain education and or work experience in order to become a member. The basic idea of these associations is to create a place for highly skilled, professional massage therapist to have recognition worldwide. This is the best way for a young professional to build their credentials as a massage therapist. It’s important to note that most of these associations will require you to have already taken national certification tests.
