Chi Nei Tsang
Chi Nei Tsang is a Chinese healing that uses ancient Taoist techniques to improve the operation of all of the body's systems. Chi Nei Tsang isn't just physical massage, though, but also includes coaching and holistic information about breathing, visualization and positive visualization. The practice began as a way for Taoist monks to be better able to perform spiritual practices and rituals, by strengthening and detoxifying their bodies.
Chi Nei Tsang is also sometimes called organ therapy because the massage itself is an internal organ massage done by pushing and manipulating the stomach. There are a set of points around the navel that practitioners focus on. They believe that by manipulating these areas they massage the internal organs in such a way that releases energy blockages and sends healing energy throughout the entire body. Unlike massages designed to loosen and stimulate the muscles, Chi Nei Tsang is believed to improve the operation of the entire bodies through this organ massage and other holistic techniques.
The organ massage and other techniques aren't just meant to treat the physical body during Chi Nei Tsang, but also the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects as well. It's believed that the deep but gentle massage of the stomach to stimulate the organs also deal with emotional responses as it improves the operation of each of the body's vital systems.
Chi Nei Tsang is used for 4 main reasons today.
- Detoxification: The organ massage keeps bodily fluids and energies from becoming stagnant. The lymph is stimulated and the blood flow improved, and bodily elimination is more efficient and healthy. It makes it more difficult to get sick because the immune system is strengthened and stimulated, making it an excellent pre- and post-surgery therapy.
- Emotional Well-Being: Chi Nei Tsang practitioners believe that the emotions we haven't dealt with properly are essentially stores in our digestive system. Like we might not digest our food properly, so we also don't digest our emotions well, and illness can result. By manipulating this area, these emotional blockages are released. CNT is often used successfully with psychotherapy for emotional purposes.
- Strengthening the Body: Because Chi Nei Tsang directly affects the organs and their positioning, it can help correct problems with posture that result from imbalances inside the body. Tensions are released and chronic back, neck and shoulder pains disappear, as well as pain that results because of the alignment of the bones of the feet, pelvis and other areas.
- Self-Awareness: Chi Nei Tsang holds that each individual is responsible for his or her own health, and the healing that can be affected from within. Breathing techniques are taught, as well as nutrition and other guidance to help maintain optimal health. Visualization and meditation are encouraged and guided to help align the mental, emotional and spiritual self with the physical.
Chi Nei Tsang is an ancient, holistic approach to general well-being and healing, and is used today to treat everything from general malaise to specific acute and chronic conditions and diseases
