Healing Touch

The Healing Touch, also known as Therapeutic Touch, has been around for as long as humans have lived in society together. First documented in ancient Chinese and Indian texts, psychic healing was long thought to be nothing more than parlor tricks or the response of the patient to suggestions and the placebo effect. That all changed in 1971 when the Dolores Krieger, a Registered Nurse and professor of Nursing at New York University first successfully used the technique. Krieger had been working with a psychic healer named Dora Kunz prior to the 1971 healing on theories known as Healing Touch which were based on the work of psychic healer Oskar Estebany.

The incident occurred one night while Krieger observed a patient dying of a gallbladder condition which modern medicine could not address. Frustrated by the inability of medicine to help and willing to try anything, Krieger used the techniques of Healing Touch on the woman. The woman’s symptoms abated, much to the surprise of the medical staff at the hospital.

Krieger and Kunz then invited Estebany to conduct a series of experiements in a clinical scientific setting. Assisted by Kunz, Estebany proceeded to work on a variety of patients while Krieger observed and compiled data on the conditions, techniques, and outcomes of the sessions. Eventually, Kunz taught Krieger the techniques which are now called Healing Touch. Krieger theorized that there was a transfer and manipulation of energies between the patient and the Healing Touch practitioner; Krieger decided that this energy was what the ancient Indian healers called “prana;” the word itself meant vitality, vigor or energy.

The initial techniques were taught to physicians, nurses, and other medical health specialists who dealt with patients in a hospital or clinical setting. Over time, that barrier has broken down and other non-medically trained people began learning the Healing Touch techniques pioneered by Krieger, Kunz, and Estbany. The Healing Touch techniques are taught in over 100 different colleges and universities and 44,000 of the 100,000 Healing Touch practitioners are medical health professionals.

The Healing Touch method is an excellent compliment to the procedures and techniques of osteopaths, chiropractors, homeopathic medical practitioners, and naturopathic medicine techniques. In the hands of the massage therapist, Healing Touch techniques are increased dramatically in their effectiveness. The massage therapist using the Healing Touch techniques they have learned alter the magnetic and energy fields of patients in subtle, but profound, ways in order to bring about relief and harmony in their bodies. Coupled with traditional massage therapy techniques, Healing Touch have been clinically proven to relieve pain from chronic pain sufferers, relieve tension, promote healing through the augmentation of a patient’s immune system, and alleviate psychosomatic afflictions.

Clinical studies have also revealed that Healing Touch techniques promote the production of hemoglobin, the portion of the blood that carries healing oxygen throughout the body, as well as alter brain waves of patients and promote an overall relaxed state of consciousness which boosts the natural healing ability of the body.
