Rosen Method

The Rosen Method of massage therapy combines deep relaxation techniques with gentle massage in order to restore patients to physical and mental health. Named after Marion Rosen, the Rosen Method was developed based upon her experience in physical therapy as a practitioner at the Mayo Clinic. Rosen studied breathing and relaxation techniques during the 1930s in Germany and used those principles to help develop an overall method to impact patient health and wellbeing.

When you begin to study the Rosen Method of massage therapy, you will learn how to use the gentlest touching techniques to bring enormous physical healing to your patients. Many forms of physical massage focus on the entire body and apply the same pressures and treatments to all areas. Because of that, areas that need more attention may be missed. In addition, areas that may be perfectly healthy may be brought out of balance because of the incorrect application of pressure through massage. Through the Rosen Method, practitioners are instead taught to use a very light touch so that they can feel exactly the condition of their patient’s bodies and be in tune with any changes and with the overall condition of the patient. In addition to the massage aspect to the Rosen Method, motion can also be studied in order to achieve optimal health.

The Rosen Method helps practitioners to direct their patients in relaxation techniques. Too often, massage therapy is administered on patients that are uptight. Any movements or pressures performed on patients that are not relaxed can be more harmful than beneficial. Instead, a Rosen practitioner will help to direct their patients to achieve deep forms of relaxation. When their bodies become more relaxed, techniques can then be applied to help heal physical ailments and to also release any mental factors that may be blocking overall health.

The Rosen Method is recognized as beneficial by many other healthcare practitioners and is often advised as a practice to pursue in conjunction with other forms of medical, psychological or chiropractic treatments. The Rosen Method helps to create a holistic approach to the ailments that may hold back their patients from achieving good health and enhanced vitality. Instead of seeking to heal only the symptoms that their patients are experiencing, Rosen Method therapists instead seek to become attuned to and heal the entire body.

The Rosen Method is taught in a variety of centers that are located in the United States, Europe, Israel and Australia. Training can be extremely intensive and ensures that future practitioners fully understand the techniques that they will use to aid their patients in achieving healing. In the United States, application of the Rosen Method is overseen by the RMPA – the Rosen Method Practitioners Association. This association allows for practitioners to connect with others around the country to share best practices and learn new techniques that will bring a positive benefit to patients.
